No, Pelosi's bailout plan is misguided
The point of the Democratic bailout is to protect the unions by preventing this kind of restructuring. Which will guarantee the continued failure of these companies, but now they will burn tens of billions of taxpayer dollars. It's the ultimate in lemon socialism.

Paulson isn't playing their game, so they'll have to pass their own sort of bill and take responsibility for what will most likely be a terribly unpopular move. The financial situation facing the Big Three is not a national problem, but their problem. The Big Two and a Half's need for a cash infusion is real. But so is the fight between those states with domestic auto manufacturers and those with foreign manufacturers, each fighting for a competitive advantage for their state's employers. Read the Article

Mrs. Pelosi and Harry Reid have spent this week demanding that Washington stave off a car-maker collapse. What makes this a little weird is that Mrs. Pelosi and Mr. Reid are Washington. If they so desperately want a Detroit bailout they could always, you know, pass one. Read the Article
