Filmmaker Steven Soderbergh has hired female MMA fighter Gina Carano to star in his upcoming action flick called "Knockout." Soderbergh is looking to rebound after the "Moneyball" fiasco with his first venture into the action genre.

Carano makes her lead-acting debut but is familiar with the cameras after a stint on the revived "American Gladiators" television series and a couple B-Film B-roles.

It is worth nothing Soderbergh's contract with this film, as he is not making any funds up front. His paycheck from Relativity Media depends entirely on the success of the film.
