That whoosh of air is a collective sigh from the West Coast at news of future NBA superstar Blake Griffin coming out of a successful knee surgery. After undergoing a stress fracture in the pre-season, the injury was too much for Griffin to continue pushing on it, especially with having on-going knee problems at Oklahoma. The team elected the season-ending procedure as the best option going forward with their 2009 #1 overall draft-pick. The rehab is expected to take 4-6 months before Griffin is back on the court - obviously long after the NBA wraps up its season.
Some say it was a sad but not unexpected fate for the Clippers savior. Sports are ripe with curses and superstitions. The test now will be if Griffin can get back to 100% so the Clippers might have any hope in turning around a losing tradition. Or maybe they could use him back at 400-500%.
