The deal that sent New England Patriots veteran defensive end Richard Seymour to Oakland (for a 2011 first round draft pick) has turned sour for the Raiders. Seymour is now playing the waiting game - sitting and taking fines until he gets the contract extension he wants. So Oakland is now stuck with a all-pro bench warmer until they can sort out some financial back logging with the Patroits, according to Guregian of the Boston Herald.
It's understandable that Seymour is upset. He went from a Super Bowl contender to the NFL's cellar overnight. The Patriots might have made the smart move with the preemptive shuffle of the guy, especially now that he's dragging his feet looking for a big contract going into the twilight of his career. Since the reign of Belichick, there has been no place for egos in the Patriots' locker room. Knowing that there would be a problem resigning him, Seymour's actions before even stepping on the field with Oakland surely justify the deal for the Pats. That is not to say the deal was personal (the rookie salary cap issue is still floating around NFL front offices), but the team first attitude is what works for the Patriots, and you can bet they are intent on continuing it.
